Winner of the Exeter Novel Prize and the Joan Hessayon Award for debut fiction.
βI fell into writing historical fiction after the chance discovery that my husbandβs mother had served in the British Army in the Second World War. This set in train a fascination with writing about the lives of strong women in wartime. My novels tell the stories of secret agents, soldiers, naval officers, factory workers, war artists, pacifists, and refugees: mothers, daughters, sisters, lovers, wives, and friends β but, above all, survivors.β
